Todays the day

Today is a momentous day (Wed 17 Sep 2008). Why? Because nineteen months after rolling my car five times my wife, Karen, is finally having an operation on her neck. Two crushed vertebrae are to be removed and her neck fused. This wasn't actually supposed to be done until sometime in November, but a fall last week has done more damage and necessitates this emergency operation. This is good news, so why do I feel so down? Is it because there's only an even chance she'll survive the operation? Maybe because of the high risk of becoming a paraplegic? I don't know but I do know I don't feel at all comfortable about this. This time tomorrow I'll know, but until then?
